David Moore Memorial Award
The Arkleton Trust makes the David Moore Memorial Award
to a student engaged in the study of rural development and
social change in Europe and/or the Third World, to enable the winner
to supplement academic course work with some research or practical
field investigations, leading to a report, essay or dissertation.
The purpose of the award/s, valued at up to 800 pounds, is to stimulate both
discussion of the mechanism by which the developed and developing
worlds can be brought closer together, and/or to investigate the impact
of Third World experience on future development in the less favoured
areas of Europe.
Applications for this award need to be supported by your course
tutor and received by us no later than the 31st January.
You can download a copy of the application form via the link at the bottom of this page. But please read the following notes first. Alternatively, paper
forms can be obtained from the address at the bottom of this page.
These notes provide additional information regarding the completion of
the application form. Please read them carefully. You may find it helpful
to prepare the text for the form using an appropriate text editor, amend
it in consultation with your course tutor, and cut and paste the completed
material into the appropriate areas of the form. Do not provide too much

Notes for those supporting applicants |
| |
The objective is to assist those starting out on a process of study and self-discovery, where practical experience and opportunity to explore new ideas and approaches to rural development play an important part. Candidates must have an open and enquiring mind and must be free from commitment.
The intention of this award is to stimulate the present generation of students, and the institutions in which they are enrolled, to discuss rural development . Thus the degree of support in terms of guidance, academic supervision, access to facilities provided by the institutions and individual faculty members, will be a factor in the Selection Committee's final decision.
The Trust's Selection Committee requests that a covering letter supporting the application be sent giving the reasons for the choice of candidate and the support given by the faculty. In addition, a reference covering academic abilities and personal credentials is required. The need for financial assistance and the ultimate usefulness of the proposed study should also be stated.
|
DON'T FORGET: The closing date for applications is the 31st January each year.
You will be informed of the Committee's decision by the end of March.
