The David Moore Fund

This was established in the memory of the late David Moore, who tragically died at the age of 41. He was the first Programme Director of The Arkleton Trust as well as being the first Secretary to the Trustees. David Moore devoted his career to work in Rural Development with Oxfam, the UK United Nationals Association and, finally, the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations.

The award is made to a young person engaged in the study of rural development and social change in Europe and/or the Third World. The award is intended to encourage students to carry out some practical investigation or research in poor rural areas, leading to practical benefits for the rural population. The aim is to enable the recipient to supplement academic course work with some research or practical field investigations, leading to a report or dissertation.

An award of up to a maximum of 800 pounds is made annually.
In order to preserve funds the Trustees have decided not to make an award in 2004.
